CNN's "Obama Revealed" Very...Revealing
I missed
CNN Candidates Revealed McCain edition, but I was able to catch the Obama edition. I know all you hardcore conservative brethren out there are thinking, CNN? What are you nuts? Surprisingly enough, they didn't film Obama entering the capital as they laid palm leaves in front of him. It was a very open...revealing bit of cinematography.
As I watched the story of Obama's rise, the way he rose struck me as quite interesting. I hope others that saw it caught what I did.
1. How did Obama get into the state senate?
CNN describes that in 1996 Alice Palmer, state Senator for the 13th district, told Obama she was retiring and wanted him to take her place. She later changed her mind, but his was made up. He searched her election filings, and after finding some discrepancies, forced her off the ballot. This was an interesting move for a man interested in serving his community under a women that was an associate of his. He won the election and remained in office until 2004.
2. How did Obama get into the US senate?
In 2000, after Congressman Bobby Rush lost a campaign for mayor of Chicago, Obama assumed that Rush would appear weak and defeated to the people of Chicago and that it would be an easy win to exalt him to the US Congress. Obama used what appeared to be weakness of another person to attempt to exalt himself. Afterward, he approached the president of the state senate and asked him how he could get to that next step. He was told that it didn't matter how smart he was until he made relationships and spent time in Springfield. He did. He spent the time with the people and voted 123 times "present" to build time and relationships without actually forming opinions and taking sides to raise his appeal.
He went to the president telling him that he (the president of the state senate) had the power to make anyone US Senator, and Obama said, let it be me. He asked for the senate. It was granted him. His name was thrown into bills to gain popularity and fame, he was placed in the limelight and eventually he was set up to speak at the DNC in 2004. Set up. Obviously, he won.
3. How did Obama get into the 2008 Presidential campaign?
Well, he was the hot Senator from Illinois. On behalf of the Democratic party, he toured and "preached" for campaigning members of the House and Senate for his first 2 years in office (10 months and 3 days, to be exact). That "valuable" work really pumped up the Democrats. His youth, enthusiasm and charisma turned them on. So, what happened? On February 10th, 2007 (exactly 1 year and 37 days after entering the Senate) he announced his run for President. The Democrats starting running for the Presidency almost 2 years before the election.
Well, here we are, almost 19 months later. What did I learn? Two things:
- First, Mr. Obama is an opportunist with good oration and skillful timing. He knows who to get help from, how to get it, when to get it and what to do with it. Drafted by the people's excitement? No. Mr. Obama put on a stage show at everyone else's expense, and he happened to be pretty good at it because the rest of the Democrats weren't.
- Second, out of 3 years, 8 months and 3 days in the US Senate, he has spent exactly 3 months and 2 days with undivided attention to his responsibilities in the Senate where he wasn't campaigning for the Democrats or his own Presidency
Can someone tell me after reading this...
Why should he be President?
Signed,
Yankee Biz
